Why we started Nikasemo
We observed schools across Ghana trying to implement school management databases, only to abandon them within months. The root cause was always the same: systems designed in Western markets failed the moment power went out (dumsor) or the local internet connection became unstable.
Furthermore, billing software was poorly integrated with the payment methods parents actually used. Forcing cash-centric or Mobile Money-first users to navigate complex credit card screens led to delays in collections and manual reconciliation errors.
In response, we built Edlege. We engineered a dual-database environment where class, continuous assessment (SBA), and attendance records reside securely on local, offline hardware that auto-syncs to the cloud. We integrated mobile payment APIs natively, giving parents a 1-click USSD payment route on their mobile money wallets.
